课程简介
“英国文学简史及作品选读”是英语专业的一门专业限选课。本课程的设置旨在使英语专业学生初步具有英国文学史的基本常识，对英国文学形成与发展的全貌有一个大概的了解；并通过阅读具有代表性的英国文学作品，理解作品的内容，学会分析作品的标准和基本方法，以提高学生对文学作品的理解和鉴赏能力，从而提高其运用英语语言的综合能力。
本课程的内容包括英国文学发展史及代表作家的简要介绍和作品选读。文学史部分从英国历史、语言、文化发展的角度，简要介绍英国文学各个历史时期的主要历史背景、文学文化思潮、文学流派、社会政治、经济、文化等对文学发展的影响，主要作家的文学生涯、创作思想、艺术特色及其代表作品的主题结构、人物刻画、语言风格、思想意义等；选读部分主要选择了英国文学史上各个时期重要作家的代表作品，体裁多样包括诗歌、戏剧、小说、散文等。课程内容具体包括历经央格鲁-撒克逊、中世纪乔叟时期、16世纪文艺复兴、17世纪资产阶级革命、18世纪启蒙运动、19 世纪浪漫主义，直到维多利亚批判现实主义时期的英国文学发展过程中的主要作家和他们的代表作。为时一个学期，每个学期课程设置为16周，32个学时。
